All of our ropes are made with alpaca fiber which we believe has many beneficial attributes for quality rope.

Alpaca is:

• A natural fiber with the tensile strength of synthetics.
• A hollow core fiber (thermal properties)
• Low micron count (soft)
• Great wicking abilities

All of our mecates, split reins and loop reins are handcrafted in our studio with absolute attention to detail and craftsmanship.  T3 Weavers is a small family owned business which ensures every product passes our quality expectations. 

We use only  worsted (all fibers are going in the same direction)  fibers for strength and durability.  Our mecates are finished with a hand tied pineapple knot that is part of the rope.  We use quality leather for our poppers, slobber straps and water straps.  Our leather is crafted by Buckaroo Leather which uses Herman Oaks' hides. Ropes are 4 strand and do not have a core.  Alpaca allows us to twist our ropes very tightly but not sacrificing the rope response and flexibility. 

Over many years we have been perfecting and testing our ropes.  In the last ten years we have built an excellent reputation with our weaving. Before we launched our alpaca mecates and reins, we have done extensive testing.  During our testing process, we told to all our testers, 'If you do not like the rope, bring it back and we will make you a new one. Tell us what you didn't like and we will change it.'  Out of the 40 or so testers, nobody returned their rope.  One positive note that repeated itself in a variety of groups, was how the alpaca ropes performed in wet weather. It may get slightly stiff but comes back very quickly. We also received positive comments on the durability, strength, craftsmanship and hand feel. T3 Weavers' goal is to make quality gear and build a reputation through the quality of our products.   

Mecates: We have a variety of designs and sizes.  You will see the link above, T3 Alpaca Mecates, which shows our standard line that is available to order anytime.  The standard line ships within two weeks depending on lead times.  Also above is the In Stock links.  These pages show items that are ready for immediate delivery.  We also make some mecates out of  alpaca fiber that we do not carry all the time and only have a limited amount.  These items are tagged "fancy" and cannot be duplicated or customized. Our standard sizes are 3/8", 1/2" and 5/8" with lengths of 22' or 23'.  Custom lengths are available upon request. 

Split/Loop Reins:  Split and Loop Reins are also available in 3/8", 1/2" and 5/8". These are made from the same high quality material as our alpaca mecates. All ropes can be purchased without slobber straps or water straps for those who have their own accessories.  The 3/8" and 1/2" reins tie up nicely using the water straps. The tie goes through the rein and behind the pineapple knot.  The added knot gives good weight and release to the reins. Slobber straps also work well. We have used the water straps on the 5/8" but due to the size of the pineapple knot, we recommend using slobber straps. Loop reins require purchase of slobber straps, so we can slide them on before tying the knot.  Custom lengths are available upon request.
