Here at T3 Weavers we specialize in Alpaca Mecates. We are also in the process of establishing a mohair line of mecates. Our rope career started around the same time as our weaving career and has been a long process. When we started making rope we had no idea of the tradition and etiquette of quality ropes. We became students of this art form and have continually been perfecting, learning and in search of making top quality mecates.

When we started our four strand line of mecates and reins, we approached our rope making slowly by testing them in many different disciplines from trainers to trail riders. We asked questions, gathered feed back and were continually perfecting our rope skills. We now have progressed to a six strand line of mecates and will carry both the four strand and six strand ropes. Just like our weaving, we are always trying to push ourselves. Who knows what will be next, maybe an eight strand line.

We found that building mecates with ample amounts of protein fiber, using finer strands (not bulky strands) and not over-twisting, results in a properly weighted mecates. The chart below compares different sizes and their weights.

Our mecates are twisted up firm for good life and response and will require a "break-in" period. We do offer a soft or medium lay upon request (softer lays will slightly alter the weight). We feel that a rope, no matter if it is soft or firm, should have the same twist and consistency from beginning to end.

We currently offer 30+ colors for multiple design possibilities. Custom dyed colors are available. There are about 20 different patterns to choose from and always welcome custom order.

We are inspired by the tradition of the mecate. We also became intrigued and inspired by some of the most respected mecate makers of today and the past.
